Already three quarters of the way through her one year term of National President of the SKAL Clubs of Ireland, Geraldine is having a ball!!! (SKAL is a Worldwide fraternal Organisation of Travel & Toursim professionals. They have over 20,000 members in more than 90 countries around the World)

To date, she has travelled all over Ireland - and parts of the UK too - representing SKAL at various events.

But the best fun of all was when Geraldine led a delagation of 40 Irish people to the SKAL World Congress in Budapest, Hungary. There were over 1000 SKAL members and their guests gathered in Budapest. There was some work, but there was also lots of fun, frolics and friendship over the five days!

The Irish delegation, led by Geraldine were there to announce that the Kerry Skal Club were bidding for this Congress for 2012.

So now this means that Geraldine and an awful lot of talented and dedicated people (and Michael as well!) are going to have to sit down and plan a major pitch for the hosting of the World Congress in Killarney in three years time.

And then, in October of 2010, they have to go all the way to the 2010 Congress in Sydney, Australia, to deliver the pitch in front of more than a thousand people...

(Tough life, but someone's got to do it...)

We are delighted that the Irish Open is returning to Killarney again in 2010.

It is being played over on the magnificent Killeen course, the flagship course of the Killarney Golf & Fishing Club, commencing on July 29th for four days.

When it was held in Killarney in 1991 and 1992, Nick Faldo was at the top of his game and won it on both occasions. 1992 in particular was really exciting, with Faldo finally wining top spot after a tense playoff with South African Wayne Westner.

Interestingly enough, there was another South African who played in that Open in 1992, and didn’t even manage to make the cut. His name was Ernie Els...

In fact, as a result of his visit to Killarney, Ernie still owes the Killeen House 4 euro 50 – but that’s a whole other story...

Wise men say that there’s only six inches difference between a pat on the back and a kick in the ass...!!! And for sure, anybody who knows anything about the Hotel business will attest to the truth of that statement.

This year the Killeen House was honoured with two major Awards from Trip Advisor and also one from the bible of the Irish Tourism Industry, the Irish Hotel & Catering Review.

Trip Advisor presented us with “World’s best Hidden Gems” and “Best Service” awards. As many of you know these are awarded solely on the basis of reviews submitted by past Guests of the Killeen House. If you have stayed with us in the past, we’d really appreciate if you’d help us to maintain our ranking by writing a review of your stay. You can do so by clicking HERE.

The Irish Hotel & Catering Review award was a very special and fulfilling one for us to receive. It was an inaugural Award for “Best Customer Experience” and it was sponsored by Failte Ireland, Ireland’s National Tourism Organisation

Here is what they Judges had to say about us

“Killeen House Hotel is famed far and wide for its warm and welcoming service. Staff go above and beyond the call of duty to make sure every guest’s stay is perfect, and Michael and Geraldine Rosney’s skills as hosts are as legendary as the craic in Rozzer’s Bar,’ said Sarah Grennan, editor of Hotel & Catering Review and chair of the Hotel & Catering Review Gold Medal Awards Jury. ‘Killeen House is a true standard bearer for the Irish hospitality industry, representing the best of Irish hotelkeeping and nowhere is the spirit of the famed Irish fáilte more alive than in this gem of The Kingdom.”

We are also very happy to have received another Red Rosette from AA Ireland for Culinary Excellence. On that note we were also happy to see that Rozzers Restaurant has been added to TripAdvisor.com this year. If you want to tell the world about Paul's amazing talents please click HERE

We are always chuffed to win Awards such as these, but the bottom line for all of us is sending Guests out of our Hotel happy... If we do this consistently, everything else (especially the Awards and the Bank balance!) will look after itself
